In partnership with Mission Kids and the Montgomery County Foster Parent Association, Foster Support Circle is pleased to offer a series of free trainings available to the community. While these sessions are open to all, current resource parents are especially encouraged to participate and take advantage of this opportunity to fulfill annual training requirements.

Topic: Darkness to Light: Stewards of Children

This program teaches adults how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. We know that when adults are trained, they take the steps to protect children from sexual abuse. Participants will learn from survivors who lived through child sexual abuse, experienced its immediate and long-term effects, and ultimately were able to find healing. Participants will also learn from experts who work with children and families and confront abuse on a daily basis, and will find concrete steps that they can take to protect the children in their lives.

Topic: Guiding Change: Prevention & Intervention for Youth with Problematic Sexual Behavior

This training supports parents, caregivers, and professionals in distinguishing typical sexual development from concerning behaviors and responding with safety, structure, and compassion. It focuses on reducing stigma, engaging caregivers, and promoting safety.

Topic: Protect & Play: Family Activity Day

We know the vital role parents and caregivers play in a child’s life. We also understand that discussing sensitive topics like boundaries, personal safety, and navigating today’s digital world can be challenging. This training is meant to help! Through engaging activities and insightful information, “Smarter Parents” covers three essential segments: Healthy Sexual Development, Parent-Child Communication, and Child Safety. Led by expert facilitators, the workshop equips caregivers with the knowledge and tools to foster open, honest conversations and ensure every child’s safety and well-being, both offline and online.

Topic: Roads to Resiliency: The 4 R’s of a Trauma-Informed Approach

This training will help to build a trauma-informed foundation for understanding behavior. It introduces trauma-informed principles that help parents and caregivers understand behavior through a trauma lens and respond in ways that promote safety, regulation, and connection.
